Disney fans are certainly a passionate community. Between showing up in droves to experience their favorite upcoming ride or attraction or even to express their love for a ride that is currently undergoing a major retheme—yes, we’re talking about Splash Mountain—Disney fans are committed to everything Disney. But is it possible fans can take that too far? One Disney fan who will be going to Disneyland Resort in March has organized a sit-in to protest the closure of Splash Mountain.
A Disney fan, Beth—@PixieDustVibes, took to Twitter to warn Disneyland Cast Members about this upcoming protester. Beth gave Cast Members a “heads up” that the fan was planning a sit-in to protest the closure of Splash Mountain on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Beth continued that the fan reportedly threatened people with physical violence in the past and said: “he would die to protect the ride.”
Disneyland CMs! Heads up that this guy is planning a “sit in” to protest Splash Mountain closing on Sat March 18th. I doubt their numbers will be very large but this dude has threatened multiple people with physical violence & said he would die to protect the ride. BE CAREFUL! pic.twitter.com/U7k5UMQpOt

In the screenshots of tweets that Beth shared, the fan expressed that “Real fans will show up when a company has gone crazy” and that “We must [be] heard and [he doesn’t] care who knows it at this point.”
Another fan, Jonathon Hernandez, questioned why the protest was necessary at all when an official closing date hadn’t been set for the Splash Mountain in Disneyland Resort. Hernandez clarified when it came to the closing date of Disneyland’s Splash Mountain, rumors abound and every date from May 2023 and “after the summer” to even after Walt Disney World Resort “is done with their ride” have been posited for the closing date of the Disneyland attraction.
The closure of Splash Mountain has certainly upset many fans. For a long time leading up to its closure and even after, fans started petitions and even asked Governor Ron DeSantis to step in and help “Save Splash Mountain.” However, that is looking incredibly unlikely as Walt Disney World has already begun work on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, set to open in 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a ride based on the Princess and the Frog movie. As many Disney Fanatics will know, the ride continues with events after the movie’s end. The ride will open in Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort and is also set to open in Disneyland Park in place of Splash Mountain in Disneyland Resort in late 2024.
