The Walt Disney Company has had some recent problems at the box office. Over the past few years, many movies have failed to turn a profit for the massive studio and its subsidiaries.

The trend seems to have begun with Lightyear (2022) and continued with films such as Strange World (2022), Elemental (2023), and Haunted Mansion (2023). The string of flops also continued with Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023).

Marvel also fell victim to poor numbers with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022), and most recently with The Marvels (2023).

Pixar’s Harry Potter

It seems that the studio is due for a revamp. Perhaps this is why rumors have been spreading like wildfire across the internet. One of these rumors is that Pixar has created its own version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) for Disney+.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), this is not true. Although it’s something many Disney fanatics or Potter fans would love to see, it’s currently another online rumor generated by AI.

But where exactly did it come from?

TikTok, of course, from @tony.aube.

In the viral video, he allegedly pulls up Disney+ and finds a Pixar version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001). He then selects the Harry Potter movie, and the TikTok video (which looks like a person watching TV at home) begins to play scenes.

However, this is just another one of the many hoaxes being generated by the Internet as of late. Using Pixar AI generators, the video takes audio from the actual Harry Potter film and intermixes it with the visual AI trickery.

Online Comments

As reported by some outlets, this has upset many viewers who have stumbled across it. Here are a few choice comments from viewers…

“my boy went above and beyond to kill everyone’s dreams. you can thank A.I. for the video ” – Made.It.Legendary

“I’ve never opened Disney+ this fast and was crushed it wasn’t real” – Denise

“I should have checked the comments first i went straight to disney plus lol” – B*Blest

“lol, the thumbnail says Disney Pixar but then it shows WB. Disney would not allow WB on their app” – Rockmonix

As previously stated, this is not the first time AI generators have created “fake Pixar movies.” There have been many at this point, although some tend to be so over the top and inappropriate Disney and Pixar would never sign off on it.

However, Harry Potter and the Wizarding World is a believable enough tie-in to fool people – as is how the TikTok video is created.

But it’s probably a good bet in the future that any odd movie claiming to be made by Pixar… may be another fake AI and/or rumor.

Unless it’s Inside Out 2 (2024)…which is one of only a handful of official Pixar films coming out soon.

About Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
