As awards season has continued, the Disney movies or Pixar movies that have been taking the lead are the 2021 movies Encanto, Cruella, Luca, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings. Now that the nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were just announced, we know that Encanto, Cruella, and Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings are all in the running for at least one Academy Award!

Encanto is, unsurprisingly, getting multiple Oscar nominations. The Golden Globe award-winning Walt Disney Animation Studios movie was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score, the Academy Award for Best Original Song (with the song being “Dos Oruguitas” instead of the more popular song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the movie), and the Academy Award for Animated Feature Film. Luca and Raya and the Last Dragon were also nominated for the Academy Award for Animated Feature Film, making the three movies competitors once again.

Cruella has been nominated for the Academy Award for Costume Design as well as the Academy Award for Makeup and Hairstyling, while Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings (starring Simu Liu) received the Oscar nomination for Visual Effects. The Marvel Studios movie Spider-Man: No Way Home (starring Tom Holland and Zendaya) was also nominated for the Academy Award for Visual Effects!

Encanto, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Luca have been consistently garnering awards or award nominations, including Annie Awards for animation, while Cruella has been earning award nominations for its costumes and Marvel movies like Shang-Chi have been gaining steam with their stunt teams or visual effects.
The Academy Award nominations were announced on Twitter in the Tweets show below, and the Academy Awards will take place on Sunday March 27 2022 in the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center. The Academy Awards will also be aired on ABC at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT.
Although these Disney movies and Marvel movies have made a dent in the list of nominations, most of the attention on March 27 will most likely be focused on the non-Disney and non-Marvel nominees including Nightmare Alley (starring Cinderella actress Cate Blanchett in the leading role), King Richard (starring Will Smith in the leading role), The Power of the Dog (starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the leading role), the Steven Spielberg adaptation of West Side Story (starring Snow White actress Rachel Zegler and Ariana Debose), or The Eyes of Tammy Faye (starring Jessica Chastain).
