Come on, Disney. It’s the perfect opportunity.
Disney would be foolish not to do this today on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. It’s one of the Walt Disney World Resort’s newest – and most popular – family-thrill coasters that sees guests rock out to classic songs on an intergalactic chase in an innovative ride design.
Cosmic Rewind is fun, it’s unique, and above all, has today got a magical chance to surprise guests as they ride into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Guardians of the Galaxy: the attraction
The ride launched to the public on Memorial Day weekend 2022 at the Walt Disney World Resort after some delays through the pandemic. Fans of the MCU movies get to ride with Rocket the Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Groot (Vin Diesel), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Zoe Saldana’s Gamora as they race to defeat the main antagonist, the Celestial Eson.
Eson is already known to Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax, and Groot and also once held the Power Stone, one of the six Infinity stones featured in Kevin Feige’s Infinity Saga in the Marvel Universe.
It’s the Florida Resort’s first reverse-launch roller coaster and one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters, with Disney’s famous level of theming bringing the Marvel world to life.

The Marvel Studios attraction is presented as the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion, the first Other-world Pavilion at EPCOT. Just like in the theme park’s World Showcase, the queue area of the ride features exhibits of Xandar, presented by the Nova Corps in a world discovery setting.
But what truly sets the roller coaster ride apart is its soundtrack. Disney Imagineers created an “Awesome Mix” of six songs that Peter Quill would be proud of:
- “Disco Inferno” – The Trammps
- “I Ran” – A Flock of Seagulls
- “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” – Tears for Fears
- “One Way or Another” – Blondie
- “Conga” – Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine
- “September” – Earth, Wind, and Fire
Just like on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort (which replaced the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror), each time you ride will be completely different.
But today, September 21, 2023, Disney has a chance to do something fun and surprising, and they’d be silly not to capitalize on the date.

September, Cosmic Rewind Edition
“Do you remember, the 21st night of September?” goes the famous Earth, Wind, and Fire song. And tonight, the 21st of September, we’d love to see Disney ONLY play “September” for guests all night long!
What a magical and very Peter Quill thing to do, right? Every time guests ride the EPCOT attraction tonight, they can “remember the 21st night of September”, the day Walt Disney World made use of its music rights.
It’s the biggest night in September Cosmic Rewind fans!
To experience the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster at the EPCOT theme park, guests must act fast on the morning of their park day to join the virtual queue and attain a boarding group. Walt Disney World’s newest attraction, TRON Lightcycle / Run in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, also utilizes the virtual queue system.
Walt Disney World removed the virtual queue system at popular attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT when Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Lightning Lane reservations launched.
We’re not sure when the virtual queue at Cosmic Rewind will be removed and a normal standby introduced, but with boarding groups still being available way past the 7 a.m. opening time, we’re sure to see some news on this soon.
All we know is, that the Walt Disney Company would be silly not to do this in September for Cosmic Rewind tonight.
