March 2022: Here’s What’s Happening at Walt Disney World

Hello, March! As we roll into a new month and vacation plans are underway, you’ll want to be aware of what’s happening at Walt Disney World in March 2022. Let’s get to it!

“The World’s Most Magical Celebration” Is Underway

Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th Anniversary (deemed “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”) is well underway. The celebration began on October 1, 2021, and Disney has promised 18-months of anniversary fun. Mickey and pals are dressed in their 50th finest, the Cinderella Castle is decked out for the occasion, and special nighttime entertainment such as Disney Enchantment and Harmonious is in full swing. Join the party celebrating 50 years of magic making!

EPCOT’s Transformation Continues

EPCOT’s transformation of Future World into three neighborhoods has caused a massive amount of construction at the Disney Park. While the World Showcase remains the active portion of the Park, we’re seeing Future World slowly but surely turn into World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. World Discovery is preparing for the grand opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. World Nature is undergoing work for the Moana-inspired Journey of Water. And last but not least, World Celebration is preparing for a new Walt Disney statue along with a new quick-service restaurant called Connections Cafe. To make all of this a possibility, expect plenty of EPCOT construction in March.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s Grand Opening

Disney’s newest Resort is kicking off the month with a bang! Beginning March 1, 2022, Guests are invited to become part of Star Wars storytelling as they experience a two-night, all-immersive adventure sending them to “space“. The stay is unlike anything Disney has ever done before and is expected to wow Star Wars fans with its lightsaber training, delicious food, unique entertainment, and more.

EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival Begins

The most stunning of EPCOT Festivals is arriving in March! That’s right, get ready to welcome the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival beginning March 2, 2022. The springtime festival host beautiful gardens, character topiaries, fresh flavors of food and beverages, along with living entertainment and special merchandise. The festival will run through July 4, 2022.

Festival of Fantasy Parade Returns

The beloved Magic Kingdom Park daily parade is making a comeback in March! You can expect the Festival of Fantasy Parde to roll through its parade route twice daily beginning March 9, 2022. Disney has promised the return of the impressive Maleficent fire-breathing dragon, as well as favorite Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Peter Pan, Donald Duck, Goofy, along with several Princesses.

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Reopens

Walt Disney World Resort will soon be able to say ALL of its Disney Resorts have officially reopened after the pandemic closed experiences in March 2020. While other All-Star Resorts have reopened, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort has remained closed. It will once again welcome Guests on March 31, 2022.

New Disney Springs Ice Cream Shop Opens

While we have yet to learn of an official opening DAY, we do know a new ice cream shop is preparing to open at Disney Springs. That’s right, Salt & Straw has confirmed they will be offering delicious homemade ice cream in March at its new location in the West Side portion of Disney Springs. Treat yourself!

Refurbishments Are Underway

Visiting in March? Keep in mind there are a few refurbishments currently underway. While the TRON Lightcylce Run coaster at Magic Kingdom is still under construction, you can expect the Walt Disney World Railroad to remain closed. Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is currently closed for a lengthy refurbishment and won’t be open the entire month of March. Spring break plans? Blizzard Beach Water Park is currently closed, but you can still take a dip in the water over at Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

Fingers Crossed… SOON?

We are still waiting on word on when Finding Nemo: The Big Blue and Beyond will open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this year. While we’ve seen progress on Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney has yet to announce when it will once again wow Disney Park Guests despite the news that Disneyland’s Fantasmic! will open in May.
